What is a Dental Implant Procedure?

Dental implants have been created to rebuild your confidence and allow you to smile with pride after losing a tooth. There is no need to be ashamed after losing or damaging your teeth, as these implants will replace your existing or lost teeth, giving you a natural look.

The dentist will determine whether you need a supported bridge or a crown at your dentist appointment. If your natural tooth is healthy enough, your dentist will grind it down and insert a support bridge rather than a crown. However, this is a short term solution as it won’t give your gum stimulation, causing it to recede in time.

Unlike a bridge, a crown is implanted into your natural tooth’s root in the jaw, allowing your gum to receive the stimulation a natural tooth would provide.

After your appointment, your dentist will then take a digital x-ray or scan of your mouth, allowing a mold to be made that fits your mouth’s form. Your dentist will make a surgical guide for the dental implant procedure to ensure the implant is a perfect fit. Once manufactured, your implants will be screwed into place, and your dentist will put your artificial teeth in place. These implants can last a lifetime if properly managed by correct brushing and flossing, just as you would with your natural teeth.
